Frequently asked questions

Terminology we will use-

Handle to Hinge: A measurement taken externally on the bottom side of your case or gear; the measurement is taken from the Handle side (Front)  to the Hinge side (Back)

Protrusions: Not all Cases have flat surfaces externally. They have varying ridges, reinforcements, and moldings.

Base Plate: The “Bottom” side of the Mounts. It has the Pin Block, rear lip, and will be bolted to your vehicle, boat, race car, airplane, tank, rocket, etc…

Mount Side Plate: This is the “Top” side Plate. This is the part that has the Detent Pin Guide, Pin Hole, and Internal Plate/Gasket. It attaches to the case, bag, cooler, Starlink Antenna, or whatever else you can dream of…

Pin Block: The removable, adjustable, and mechanical part of our Mounting System.

Internal Plate/Gasket: This internal plate that goes inside of your case, bag, etc… It provides a strong internal aluminum base, gives the gasket a firm surface to seal against, as well as an area to potentially build off of for any creative or custom applications.

You will need to finalize your choice of gear storage, we recommend doing this first. Once that is completed, it's time to measure… For example purposes, we will use a case.

-Flip your Case upside down.

-Measure externally on the bottom from Handle to Hinge.

-Be aware of any Protrusions

-Determine the physical dimension of the bottom side. Example: Case measurement is 13 ¾” then it will fit a Large Mount 14”

Pro Tips: Different cases have solid plastic protrusions; these can be trimmed or sanded down, providing a tighter and slimmer fitting Mount Plate to the Case.

A general rule we have noticed, most external measurements provided on case dimensions by the manufacturer , our Mount will end up being 1 ¼” smaller than the dimension.

For example, Pelican Air 1555 Exterior (L×W×D) 24.76 x 15.46 x 8.24 in (62.9 x 39.3 x 20.9 cm) The handle to hinge measurement is 15.46”, however the physical dimension of the bottom is 13.9” and fits perfectly on our Large Mount 14”

Detailed dimensions are provided in each of the Mounts Photo sections. As always, take your time, double-check, and never hesitate to shoot us a quick message to get clarity.

Best Mounts on The Market

So I have been running the Mounting companies Large Mounts for my Cases on the exterior of my bed rack for about 2 years now and boy ohh boy have them made a huge difference in the way I load and unload some of my gear.

I’ve taken some amazing trips with them mounted on my truck from doing the Continental Divide Trail, Running The Mojave Trails from east to west , and hitting the open roads in Death Valley. Not ones did any of the mounts cause my cases to fall break.

This cases are truly built to take a beaten and honestly they might just outlast my Rig.

Just what I needed!

I used to have a long rifle case on the roof of my Tacoma to hold tools and recovery gear. It was annoying climbing up on he truck and bringing gear or tools up and down from the roof of the truck so I needed an easier way to access roof top gear. I discovered The Mounting Co and after a conversation with Conor I ended up getting 2 large mounts. I went and bought 2 Craftsman Tradestack portable tool boxes to replace the one long rifle case I was using on the roof. These Mounting Co mounts fixed the issue I had and now when I need tools or gear I just pop the case off the roof rack and bring it to where ever I’m doing work. These mounts work great and they also look good on the truck too!

Stow and Go!

Been Running 2 large mounts with Pelican 1557 air cases for tools, fluids, parts and these mounts are solid, secure, durable, and light (minus what I have in them)! Cases are secure, abuse-resistant and capable of handling 64lbs of gear in one box! Whether I'm doing 80 thru the desert or going vertical up a rock wall, these go everywhere and stay put!
